Jeffrey D. Ryan was born in Philadelphia in 1945. He received a Bachelor of Arts Summa Cum Laude in 1967 and a Bachelor of Architecture in 1969 from Rice University. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, named Distinguished Student in Architecture, and was selected as the first Rice Preceptor to Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo Associates. In 1971, Mr. Ryan earned a Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard University,
where he was the CRS Foundation Scholar from 1969 to 1971. Following Harvard, he served in the Corps of Engineers at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia.
His design expertise derives from his tenure with Venturi Scott Brown Associates as Associate Partner (1973-1981), Morris*Aubry (Morris Architects) as a Design Partner (1981-1986). From 1973 to 1981 he was an Associate Professor of Architectural Design at Drexel University in Philadelphia,
visiting critic at Rice from 1976 to 1979 and at the University of Pennsylvania in 1980.
Mr. Ryan is a three-term Board member of Rice Design Alliance. His experience includes museums, higher education, multi-family housing, and hospitality projects. He is married to Patricia A. Ryan, DVM, and has two daughters, Emily and Elizabeth.
