Julian was born in 1970 in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1992 with a Bachelor in Environmental Design. In 1992 he was granted a full scholarship to Rice University where he graduated in 1994 with a Masters of Architecture.
After graduation, Julian moved to Washington DC. He worked for the internationally renowned lighting and museum exhibition design firm of George Sexton

Associates until 2002. While there he managed projects in Hawaii, Florida, New York, England, and Switzerland and had the opportunity to work in association with such notable architecture firms as Tadao Ando Architects, Rafael Vinoly Architects, and Foster and Partners Architects.
While at George Sexton Associates,

Julian became a licensed architect in the Commonwealth of Virginia and joined the International Association of Lighting Designers. His involvement at GSA included project management, gallery design, custom casework and furniture design, large scale model building and coordination, daylight and artificial light studies, lighting calculations, material selections, lighting fixture design, on-site administration, art work placement and coordination.
