The mission of the museum is to develop a sense of participation and a lifetime of enthusiasm for learning and discovery. While the ground floor exhibition spaces are neutral in character and designed to accommodate changing use, the Kids’ Hall is intended to be a civic-scaled space with permanent architectural identity. The design for the main facade adapts a symbolism that derives from the monumental institutions typical of the adult world while incorporating playful, colorful, friendly detailing inviting to its primary users. Venturi, Scott Brown & Associates was the design consultant on this project.
