The Houston SPCA has been serving the homeless animal population since 1924 and now serves over 30,000 animals annually. The new facility has over 150 dog kennels, 75 small dog and puppy cages, and 100 cat cages. Sanitation, disease control, and easy maintenance required careful consideration in the specification of materials and in the design of the building air conditioning and plumbing systems. Creating a positive, cheerful atmosphere for the presentation of animals to prospective adopting parents was crucial to the success of this project.
