This City of Houston Branch Library, a dynamic community center, contains adult, teen and children reading sections, meeting rooms, an archiving center and a wireless Internet cafe. Upon entry through a two-story vestibule, the open lobby, with monumental stairs to the second level, welcomes visitors and provides a clear sense of organization. The circulation and reference counter is centrally located promoting convenience and visual control. Exterior walls contain expanses of glass to bring in daylight and let those passing by know what the interior contains. The new Looscan Library contains approximately 100,000 items in 20,400 gross square feet and has achieved LEED Certification for sustainable, environmentally conscious design.
