The mission of New Hope Housing is to diminish the number of homeless individuals in Houston by providing safe and secure living quarters. This shelter is seen as a stepping stone towards independence. A three-phase project, this single room occupancy hotel has over 130 resident rooms, laundry facility, food preparation area, two lounges, two meeting rooms, and two interior courtyards complete with individual garden plots for the residents. Creating a positive design image at very low cost was crucial to the success of the project. This project was nominated for the 1996 Allen Award given by Central Houston, Inc.
