With over 30,000 inhabitants on a daily basis, the Texas Medical Center is very conscious of the need for enhanced pedestrian pathways throughout its dense campus. Jackson & Ryan was commissioned to design a skybridge system that not only linked the individual institutions, but had to provide a universal design that would satisfy a multitude of design styles found throughout the TMC campus. The solution is one of minimal structure that seems to effortlessly support a linear circulation tube resembling a vital human artery or intestinal passageway. In addition to providing pedestrian circulation, this bridge system will house utility piping from the central energy plant to various hospitals making the connectivity even more efficient.
