Integral to the grand vision of the Alameda District in Downtown San Antonio, The Museo Alameda anchors the national hub of Latino arts and culture in the city. The renovation of 17,000 square feet and the addition of 15,800 square feet transformed a mundane 1930s building into a state-of-the-art museum. This museum develops a cultural consortium with other local institutions. Flexible lecture halls and workspaces allow The Alameda to work with the University of Texas at San Antonio in developing a graduate degree program in Museum Studies. Opened in April 2007, the museum houses borrowed objects from its affiliate, the prestigious Smithsonian Institution, and has engaged the interest of local residents, national visitors, and area students.
