Philadelphia Museum of Art
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Originally designed by Horace Trumbauer, this monumental Greco-Roman classic revival building is an historic landmark. The goal of the 1981 master plan was to coordinate the reorganization and growth of the Philadelphia Museum of Art's collections and services through optimum use of the existing 499,000 SF building and of expanded facilities beyond it. The master plan required a five-year and a 20-year implementation strategy, phasing alternatives and detailed budgeting. Preparations included the survey and interviewing of the heads of 11 curatorial departments and 14 support departments. Jeff Ryan authored the original master plan. Jackson & Ryan completed revisions to the master plan in 1987 and has implemented various phases, including a four-year reinstallation of the museum's entire European collection, relighting of the main stair hall, furniture art storage, new offices for the development, finance, operations and security departments, and the European painting and Far East art curatorial offices.
